Periodically, JDM will review a few of our favorite solutions or vendors. In this review, we wanted to look at online printing companies. Here’s our list of the top 3 online printing companies, Pros & Cons, and a few tips to help save you some money on your next print job.
OvernightPrints.com makes our list for a best buy. Their quality is really good and their pricing is even better. The bad news is how inflexible they are. You have to follow their specs for the piece. If you don’t care about non-standard sizing, this is the online printing company for you.
SECRET: Everyone’s got a promotional newsletter, but Overnight’s actually has some really valuable offers in it. Subscribe and save.
OvernightPrints.com is great, but they’re a spec printer. If you’re interested in non-standard sizing and you’re willing to pay a little more for it, 4Over is our first choice. The purchase process is a little more complicated however (less spec = more complex).
SECRET: Even if you’re not a professional, setup a Trade account. Lots of deals and better service. It’s a white-lie anyway.
When the project allows for it, we like to use Vistaprint. They’re sort of a big deal in the industry—which ends up putting them dead-center. They do non-spec but they most do spec printing. They can do short print runs or very large runs. If you just don’t know who to choose, go with Vistaprint. You may not save all you could, but you’ll be happy with the results either way.
SECRET:Vistaprint has a TON of spec stuff—so many they’re almost not spec. Before paying a premium for non-spec printing, check out their website and see if they don’t already have a spec that’s weird enough to make your print piece stand out.
