Even to a digital agency like JDM, integrating online activities with off-line are still very important.  The trouble with integration is the high per-unit cost of printing.  We asked a printing vendor of ours, Allegra NRH, for a few tips on how to keep printing costs down.  Here’s their “Top 5 Ways to Cut Printing Costs.”

  1. Stick with standard finished sizes to reduce paper waste and minimize your costs.
  2. Be careful when using bleeds. Sometimes they require larger sheets that need to be trimmed, resulting in higher costs and longer production time.
  3. Similarly, spread the cost of color between several jobs. For example, design a series of brochures that share the same colors, and print them at the same time. It can be cheaper than paying separate setup charges for each.
  4. Choose the right type of binding. Saddle stitching is one of the least expensive and most popular types of binding.
  5. Avoid rush charges. Find out what length of time is required from your printer for production printing and added processes like folding, paper- and die-cutting. Stay on deadline to avoid rush charges, which can be as high as 50 to 100 percent above the normal quote.

PLEASE NOTE: JDM has no affiliation with Allegra or any other vendor.  We DO sometime ask partners, vendors and client to contribute to our Shameless News blog from time to time.  This post is not an endorsement.  We just asked the question and they were kind enough to answer.
