Google has finally unveiled brand pages for Google+ and JDM Digital’s got one!  So far, pretty cool, but will it cast a wide enough shadow over Facebook’s 750 million active users and get them to convert?

“So far Google+ has focused on connecting people with other people,” Google SVP of Social Vic Gundotra said on their company blog. “But we want to make sure you can build relationships with all the things you care about—from local businesses to global brands—so today we’re rolling out Google+ Pages worldwide.”

Google+ Pages IconThe setup process is about as simple as you can believe, however it’s a little disappointing looking once you’re all done and it’s every bit as confining as a Facebook page.  It’s also just as ego-sucking looking at your Facebook page of hundreds of fans and your Google+ page with zero.  Gotta start somewhere, I guess.

Besides the handful of brands already hopping on the Google+ page bandwagon, the lingering question is: are Google+ Pages able to beat Facebook’s?  Mashable’s Zeny Huang seems to think so.  In an op-ed piece, she lists her top 4 reasons Google+ pages will beat our Facebook.

Google Plus VS Facebook?

  1. Better Search Opportunities – Facebook’s domain name generates a very low CTR
  2. More Customization – This hasn’t actually happened yet, but it could
  3. Better Analytics – Google+ teams up with Google Analytics and it blows Facebook’s stats out of the water
  4. Google Can Learn from Facebook – By this she means the mistakes Facebook has made blaze a clearer trail for Google+

From the point of view of the casual Google+ user, the move may feel a little too much like shameless promotions are ‘a coming and perhaps their right.  To businesses and digital agencies, it feels like ABOUT TIME!
