According to research conducted by Good Technology, 80% of Americans work “after hours” via their mobile devices. It got me thinking about just how critical businesses having some sort of mobile presence has become. Knowing all that “after hours” work adds up to around an extra full day of work per week and you start to see that if you’re practically invisible via a mobile devices, you’re practically invisible a full day a week – every week of the year.
The report notes that a full half of respondents check their email in bed, starting around 7:09 AM and 68% check email before 8AM. Also, 40% check email and surf the web after 10 PM. That’s huge!
While many are on the bandwagon for businesses having mobile apps, for the majority of our clients we recommend simply a mobile-friendly website. That could be a separate, touch-friendly mobile site alternative or building the whole thing on a responsive layout. Either way, being visible via mobile can equate to a more visits and an overall better user experience for those watching late-night TV in bed or enjoying their morning cup of coffee.
