Does JDM support IE6?

The short answer is no.  JDM no longer supports backwards compatibility with IE6.  That’s not to say our work isn’t compatible.  It just means we won’t guarantee it.  How did we fall out of love with IE6?  I’ll let the JDM technical team explain.

Hate for IE6

Working with IE6 is one of the most frustrating things developers have to deal with. It takes up a disproportionate amount of development time to ensure backwards compatibility with software more than 10 years old. Who uses ANY software from 10 years ago?!

We’re not the first–or the last to drop IE6.

At JDM, our code is W3C & HTML5 standards-based, however we will no long be supporting or guaranteeing compatibility with IE6 or earlier on any of our digital assets or produced technologies. Before you think we’re just being lazy, consider that we’re not the first to drop IE6 compatibility – and we will certainly not be the last.

• Google Dropped IE6 in 2008
• YouTube kissed it goodbye in 2009
• Facebook Dropped it last year
• WordPress dropped the hammer a few months ago

And the pattern continues to grow with even Microsoft counting down the end of IE6.

What can be done?

Well, you could build very boring sites with minimal functionality and a crappy user experience, or just add an update reminder banner that is only shown to users of older browsers.  JDM and IE6nomore came up with some easy code that displays the following to IE6 visitors.
