Pantone’s Color of the Year 2020 is Timeless for a Time of Change
It’s the color of blue jeans, blueberries, and the sky at dusk. The color forecasters at Pantone have deemed the 2020 color of the year to be a comforting and familiar shade of azure, Classic Blue.
A timeless and enduring blue hue elegant in its simplicity, the Pantone Color of the Year 2020 PANTONE® 19-4052 Classic Blue highlights the desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as head into the “roaring” 2020s.
“Many of us looked at 2020 as the future, but now we’re here,” says Laurie Pressman, VP at Pantone Color Institute.
Amid the instability 2020 is sure to bring, Pantone was faced with deciding which color best expressed the zeitgeist—a tradition now in its 20th year. “We landed back on the blue family, where we’ve been and where we are,” says Pressman. “Just not knowing where to go and who to trust…[blue is] the feeling of calm and reassurance that help us have that confidence to move forward.”
For 21 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product, packaging, and graphic design. The Pantone Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute™ comb the world looking for new color influences.
